Kentucky Reptile Zoo - Medical Venom Extraction
Jim Harrison, director of Kentucky Reptile Zoo, will present a demonstration on 'Dangerous Reptiles'. This program will include several venomous snakes, a Mexican beaded lizard, an alligator, and one surprise animal! Jim will cover myths and misconceptions about these amazing animals, as well as first aid for snakebite and safety while in the wild. At the conclusion, Jim will extract venom from an Eastern diamondback rattlesnake. This is a rare opportunity to see a venom extraction in person. 9:30 What is Herpetology?” The study of amazing and unusual organisms known as Herps presented by Ashley Schnitker.
10:15 "Save the Rain Forest, Eat an Iguana." Dr. Durtsche will return from the Northern Kentucky University to give his lecture on practical rainforest conservation.
11:00 "Global warming, the Silent Spring revisted." Present By Jeff Goessling. Thomas More College. Jeff will examine the impacts of an ivansive fungus threatening most amphibian species with extinction. The background and future of the fungus will be examined, including some of the victims of the fungus and efforts made to combt further loss.
12:00 "Local Conservation efforts" presented by Marc Frevola. Learn about local conservation efforts in the Ohio River Valley that the Greater Cincinnati Herpetologicla Society is currently involved with.
